  • Scott Pingle, SE/ CE talked about residential point loads, standard loads on a 6” stem wall 12x6 footing can carry up to 5000#. Talked about hold downs to cripple walls that extend to floor and the need of continuous bearing, post and must be through floor system. Need for blocking. Talked about truss uplift; 2000# is a reasonable figure. In residential there is a lot of built in redundancy through calculations. Talked about uplift values of screws; H2.5 screws have value. Talked about basic engineer design. Talked about retaining walls. Top of footing to backfill . How they design; design as though freestanding; designed to tilt. Key ways gives smaller footing. Talked about nail values common, not box nails, overdriven nails are a concern, less than 20% ok. Talked about Engineering wind and seismic loading.
